@Vernon, I bought the 22124 model that this one replaced for $670. When Sears discontinued it I managed to find one of those. I specifically wanted the Beismeyer fence more than the intergal riving knife. (I made my own splitter) I talked to someone this week who has both the 22116 and a Steel City Granite top. He likes the 22116 and uses it more than his steel city saw.

@tntbrookens

Yes! It is a very close replacement to the 22114. I love the casters. The fence is good enough for 90% of the weekend woodworkers. The 2009 safety appliances are great and easy to use. The price is almost too good to pass up.

Good luck on your decision!

Great side-by-side comparison! Thank you. I also noticed that you wrote a review on the 21833. For the money, which is $362 right now with discounts, would you consider this one?

@tntbrookens,

I didn't compare the two because the 22114 does not meet the new 2009 safety standards. The 22116 has riving knife and/or blade guard that follows the blade when you raise or lower the saw.

The 21833 replaces the 22114. The capacities of the saw table and fence are very similar. I'll bet the 22114 will disappear from the line soon.

The 22116 replaces the 22124. The 22116 has a fence that resembles the Beisymer fence that was on the 22124. It's actually a very good copy.

I own and use a 22114. The 22114 is made in the USA. I have had the saw for over five years and have learned to live with it's shortcomings.

First, the motor is a little small for the saw. I saw a lot of hard maple and it really makes the saw work hard. I wish the saw had a larger motor.

Second, My saw lives in an unheated garage and twice a year or more I have to get out the emery paper, random orbit sander, and oil and polish up the table. It gets surface rust easily and a couple of humid weeks will reek havic on it. The granite top of the 22116 would be nice.

I also use my saw as a workbench way too often. I know I've used the top as a base to beat on things over the years. I would be scared to do that on the granite top 22116.

The fence on the 22116 is nice. Not as nice as the Beisymer that was on the 22124 it replaces but better than the fence on the 22114. Myself, I have to check and re-adjust the fence alignment two or three times a year. (I use my saw a lot) It is easy to align, but it does go out. I feel the fence on the 22116 is much better and will require a lot less attention.

I also like the rip extension on the 22116.

In summary, if you can learn to live with the granite top, go with the 22116. The fence is better and there is no maintenance as with a cast iron top. If you going to be rough on your saw and know or can learn saw alignment buy the 22114

ToolBoxHero, If you could get the Craftsman 22116 for a price that is really close to the 22114, which one would you opt for? I see the good and bad points of both saws. The granite top is making me shy away from the 22116. They both appear to be really good saws, but I can't find a comparison of them together. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
