Sorry that I haven’t posted for almost two weeks.  I’ve been busy working around the house.  I have a good sized list of tasks I want to get done this summer.

I have a small software program that runs in the background on this blog that captures search information for specific questions you have. Over the last month there has been a few searches that I will  go over in this article that keep coming up. 

The following searches came up this month concerning Warranties: 

hand tool warranties, Diehard C3 19.2 lithium warranty, sears extended warranty on rechargeable drills, sears tool warranty, sears purchaseprotect, sears return policy on tools, sears product protection plans, craftsman tool replacement rust, sears extended warranty mower return, sears craftsman warranty, sears merchandise replacement agreement.

- Go to http://toolboxhero.com/warranty to see my interpretation of the Sears warranty for tools and lawn equipment. Specifically there are a few points I would like to review.

- Sears tools may be returned within the first 90 days with no questions asked.  In most cases if you use the tool or open the packaging you will be charged a 15% restocking fee.

- Craftsman hand tools have a lifetime unlimited warranty.  If the tool is broke go to your nearest Sears for a replacement.  THEY MAY NOT HAVE THE SPECIFIC ITEM IN STOCK.  If they don’t have it in stock a sales associate will gladly order a new one for you from the tool catalog.  Depending on the size of item it may shipped free of charge to your home.

- While the tool warranty is “unlimited” and will replace the item if it is broke expect a hassle if the tool works but is just rusty or scratched.  The hurricane in New Orleans created a situation where many Craftsman tool owners tried to get their rusty tools replaced by Sears instead of going through their homeowner insurance.  I have found that most of the rusty Craftsman hand tools can easily be cleaned up with steel wool and penetrating oil.  In severe cases a wire wheel on a bench grinder works well to clean them up. 

- Cordless tool batteries:  Batteries that come with the drill or combo kit carry the same  warranty as the tool.  Typically that is one year and you have the option of purchasing an additional Sears PurchaseProtect for a three year money back guarantee.  Ni-cads purchased separately DO NOT have a warranty.  Some lithium batteries do have a one year warranty.  Read the packaging when you buy the battery and save your receipt.  Don’t forget Sears has a 90 day money back return policy on their tools.

- Extended warranty on mowers.  It is called Sears Repair Protection Agreement.   The RPA covers home repair on riding lawn mowers and shop repair on most other products.  It covers most repairs and defects in your mower.  It does not cover consumables like mower blades, oil, spark plugs, and air filters.   If the mower can be easily repaired a service tech repairs the mower, at the techs discretion they may replace the mower with one of equal value.  Call 1-800-4MY-HOME to schedule service or to ask questions you may have on your Protection Agreement.

The spindle sander Sears came out with last month is generating a lot of buzz.  I like it.  It looks durable and well made.  At $199.99 it is a good value.

The following searches came up this month concerning Sears Craftsman RC Truck: 

Craftsman 19.2V C3 Radio Controlled Racing Truck, craftsman rc truck, sears rc truck, craftsman remote control race truck parts, sears c3 rc truck and parts, tires for 19.2 volt rc truck.

- There are a lot of great reviews on the RC truck.  I think it will be very popular this Christmas.  I emailed Sears Parts Direct twice and there seems to be no parts or accessories available for it through Sears but at $69 you can buy another and cannibalize one for parts.   If you are familiar at all with RC cars $69 won’t even buy a decent set of racing wheels and tires. 

 - Hopefully a company like http://www.prolineracing.com/ will start making aftermarket parts for it.

- A lot of buzz on the rc forums would like Sears to come out with an off road version.  We’ll just have to wait and see.  In the meantime, if you want the ultimate RC Truck that is bullet-proof, dependable, easy to use and goes 50 MPH go to www.rchero.comand buy a Traxxas Revo.

- Craftsman Professional Warranty.  If you use a craftsman tool commercially it only carries a 90 day warranty.  BUT, Sears upgraded the Warranty on the Professional Lawn Equipment to One Year for Professionals and Two years for Homeowners who buy the professional equipment.
