I promise I will get to reviews of other manufactures tools but Sears has been introducing so many new items this year that I am having a hard time just keeping up with just their new tools.

Last November Sears announced they were coming out with over 400 new tools in 2008 and so far they are meeting that announcement

The latest new tool to hit the store is one of the most requested tools.  The sales associates at “my Sears” couldn’t count the number of woodworkers looking for a good spindle sander.

The new Craftsman Oscillating Spindle Sander click here for a picture  comes with six spindles ranging from 1/2 inch to 3 inches.  The spindles are 4 1/2 inches long so they will easily sand all those difficult woodworking projects.  The specifications don’t list the grit but it looks and feels like 100 grit so it will be good for quick material removal down to rough finish work.

The spindle spins at 1725 rpm and oscillates up and down 1 inch so it shouldn’t burn your work or wear out the spindle quickly.

The sander itself it made well.  There is a large, heavy top, a metal frame undercarriage, and a plastic shroud around the base.  The base has spots for all the spindles, spindle adapters, and spindle inserts.

It has a built in dust port that is sized to hook up to your Craftsman Shop Vacumn and a cord wrap so it will store easily.

My inital reaction is this is a good value at $199.00.  It comes with the normal Sears one year power tool warranty and you have the option of extending the warranty up to 5 years.

It looks like the stores were each sent two initially, one for display and one to sell.  So if you want the first one I would suggest running to the store right now to get it.  You can also order it online by clicking here
