UPDATE: Sears 19.2v C3 Craftsman RC Truck parts availability

I told you I was checking into parts availability for the RC Truck.  An RC car is not much good if you can’t get parts for it.  It seems Sears is going a different way though.  Instead of having parts so you can fix it yourself, they are offering the SearsPurchaseProtect on it just like any other electric “tool”.

I get the impression that the parts department does not know if they will be carrying parts for this truck.

Here is the first response I got.

Dear Mr. Sikkema,

Thank you for contacting Sears.

We appreciate you shopping with Sears PartsDirect, where we supply parts
for most household appliances, lawn and garden equipment, and power
tools. We are unable to obtain parts for your RC truck. We regret any
inconvenience this may cause.

If we can be of additional assistance with any of your parts needs,
please contact us at
partsdirect@customerservice.sears.com or call us at
1-800-4MY-HOME (1-800-469-4663).

We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Sears.

I then asked:  “The next question IS:  Will you be supporting the RC Truck?  You sell the thing as a tool (division 09) so it would be nice if you will.  If you aren’t going to support it there is not much need to purchase the truck BECAUSE it will need parts.”

So it looks like they will not have parts available BUT ………. Sears does offer the SearsPurchaseProtect (SPP) on the truck for an additional $10.70.  I would suggest buying the SPP and when you break it use the SPP to get it replaced instead of trying to get parts for it.

The SPP works as follows:  If you break it during the first 90 days, return the RC truck to the store and they will replace it.  After 90 days you will have to call the phone number or go to the website that is in the SPP form they gave you.  Sears will then send you a gift card for the purchase price plus tax.  (You may have to send the RC truck back to them using a prepaid shipping label they will send you) You can then go back to the store and get another one.  They will again ask you if you would like to purchase the SPP.  Buy it again for 10.70 and you will be able to repeat the process all over again.  I will bet spending $10.70 on the SPP will be cheaper than buying parts and paying for shipping.

The SPP process is not as complicated as it sounds, but it will take 10 days or so to get your money back so you can go get another one.
